Talk about a bucket-list destination…. Patrick is one of the biggest WWII buffs there is. For the 78th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, Patrick, his dad and brother (who are also veterans) traveled to Paris, France, then drove to Normandy, France, to witness the ceremonies held in honor of those who fought.
They were able to shake hands with men who fought bravely on that sand so many years ago.
They stood on the grounds and walked on the beaches of northern France where 78 years ago history was made.
Here are some of the sites they visited:
- Omaha Beach
- Point Du Hoc
- Utah Beach
- The city of Carentan
- The American Normandy Cemetery
- Pageus Bridge
- Sword
- Juno
- Gold
- Areomanches
This once in a lifetime trip was everything he hoped for, and more. Not only did they get to see these sites, walk those beaches, see the museums and talk to fellow veterans… they also enjoyed a lot of french wine, ciders, bread, and french delicacies like foie gras and andouillerie (sausage made with layers of pig intestines ).
Patrick picked up our penpalz postcards as well as a few souvenirs! Still not sure where your postcards will be from next month… we might stay local on the Island of Sicily until our big trip to Ireland this summer!
As always, thank you for supporting us and following along on our adventures!
