Taormina is such a beautiful town located about an hour north east of us. It sits right on the ocean, on a hill, overlooking the beautiful ocean. The town is so picturesque and the idyllic little Sicilian town. It’s been on our bucket-list to go there since we arrived. And now that we know the drive was easy, parking was easy, and how beautiful it really was… we’ll be back.

We went up there on a Saturday to get granita and to just walk around and get lunch. Some trips we plan on doing the tourist-y, historic, sight seeing… while other days it’s nice to not have an agenda. Next time, we’ll go back and see more of the historic sites!

The Bam Bar was a spot on our list of “must-dos.” This did NOT disappoint. Bam Bar is famous for their granita. Granita is a mix between a slushy and ice cream. Bam Bar is supposedly THE ORIGINAL granita spot. Taormina is famous for granita, and supposedly where it originated, because they would go to the top of Mt. Etna and collect snow, bring it down into town and mix it with fruit and syrups, and whelp, there you’ve got granita!

We’ve heard that you have to wait hours some days to get into Bam Bar, but seeing that we were there on an off day, we were able to walk right in, get a seat, order a cafe, and then have our amazing granita served to us!

After granita walking around, it started to “rain.” Or so we thought. We weren’t getting wet! Put out our hands and black ash was falling from the sky. Mt. Etna was less than 20 miles away and erupting, and because of the winds that day, the ash was falling on us like rain in Taoromina! It was crazy!

As far as postcards go, we got them all here for October. The next day a cyclone hit Sicily. We were without power for two days, there was flooding all over the roads and towns nearby, the entire town and base was shut down the entire week. Halloween was rescheduled, events were postponed and the post office was closed. So, postcards for October went out on Monday, November 1st! I’ve been hearing they are taking about 2 weeks to get to you in the states… so keep a look out for them in a few weeks!

Until next month! ❤️
